“Wine is our daily life. It is our commitment for the ever growing request for top quality products by consumers who have become more and more demanding. But above all it is a passion that brings us close to a product with an extraordinary symbolic value”. This is the mission of Icone, a young wine company consumer oriented and whose strategy follows clear steps: understanding, elaborating, projecting, producing and finally proposing.
Icone was born in 2006 from a project, a team, mainly composed of women, who through the company label want to turn the company into an example to be followed, a wine icon. And in order to succeed, the quality of the products is fundamental. Starting from the vineyard.
The company vineyards are located in the south-eastern part of Sicily, in the Noto Valley, in the Contrada “Buonvini”, that has always been dedicated to vine cultivation.
The cultivation systems are the espalier for the new implants and the bush for the old ones. Great attention for environmental friendly cultivation techniques. “Both pruning and gathering of the grapes are carried out manually”, explained Carmela di Bella, who runs the company, “in order to avoid the stress caused by machines and to guarantee, at the same time, longer life and a better quality of the grapes”. None of the Icone wines goes through the barrels. “Icone, in fact, follows the philosophy of “no wood”.
But quality also needs to be transmitted in the most efficient way. “This is why we chose an attractive and innovative packaging”, underlined the manager, “that abandons castles and heralds to give space to a minimal look”. The labels are in fact the result of the studies carried out by five students of the design department of the University of Palermo, who, thanks to an original approach, managed to create an “outsider” approach, which well represents the company and its mission. Icone also means I.C. One, i.e. “I see one”, since the aim of the company is to be immediately seen by the consumer in the wine shop, and therefore be purchased.
From the native and international vines eight labels are obtained. Amongst these Sense, a monovarietal Nero D’Avola, produced with grapes from only one vineyard, forty years old, with bush vines collected manually. A product on which the company counts a lot, considering the positive comments given by the juries in international competitions. “Sense is raised in concrete or steel tanks and then in bottles”, explained the company, “in order to keep the strong personality and scent of the wine, which are witnesses of a unique and unrepeatable territory”.
Icone’s new wine is “Più bravo”, a brut spumante wine with flowery scents, that Icone will present at Vinitaly 2010 in Verona from Thursday 8th of April to the 12th of April.
