The procedure to enter the new doc Sicily comes true: starting from January 1st, the Tasting Committee of the Regional Institute of Vine and Wine that is acknowledged by Sicilian Region as certification’s institution, will start working. In Febraury the Regional Council Department for Agricultural and Food Reserves will carry out a “wine catalogue”, as reported by Giuseppe Bursi, who is responsible for Council Department’s wine sector.
Ministerial decrees explaining procedure to enter Doc Sicily and Igt Terre Sicane have been published on the Official Gazette, therefore they are available and can also be downloaded. The entry procedure was explained to Sicilian wine producers during a meeting organized in Palermo. “To qualify Sicilian wines, to strengthen their identities, to brush up their quality, image and position are some of the main tasks we want to reach through the new Doc designation”, says Dario Cartabellotta, general director of Irvv.
“We are improving the system” - he continues explaing – “controls increase as well as procedures become easier”. Procedure will be carry out through data processing systems of Full Service and Global Service. Users have at their disposal a series of functions allowing them to communicate every single detail about doc wines. The Global Service management project established by Irvv is available on the Services Portal managing doc wines’ certification; it will allow users to update their documentation, and to ask for services provided by the institution. To have the certification takes 20 days. “It’s a great opportunity for Sicilian wine firms”, said Antonio Rallo, Assovini president, “an easy Doc designation safeguarding Sicily’s reputation”.
