John J. Law appointed New President of The British Chamber of Commerce for Italy

The Presidency of the British Chamber of Commerce for Italy passed from Mr. David Crackett to Mr.John J. Law at the Annual General Meeting on 24 th June 2010.John J. Law was born in Leicester on 7 th April 1958 and was educated at Ratcliffe College and theUniversity of Manchester, where he read English Language & Literature. He joined the Barclays Groupin 1980 where he became an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Bankers.

 

In 1993 he gave in topressure from his Italian

wife, Simonetta, and moved to Rome as part of Barclays de Zoete Wedd’sStructured Finance Division. He transferred to Milan in 1996 where he has been Risk Director forBarclays Capital in Italy for several years. John currently holds the position of Managing Director &Chief Risk Officer in HSBC-Italy.He has two children, a great passion for literature and enjoys golf and rugby.John first joined the British Chamber of Commerce for Italy in 1998 and became a Councillor in 2009before being appointed as President this year.John J. Law is taking over a Chamber on a sound financial footing. In the last four years, under theleadership of the past President David Crackett, The British Chamber of Commerce followed astrategic plan focused on three main points: raising the quality of the membership, improving theefficiency and professionalism of Chamber staff, increasing the number and variety of Chamberevents.

 

This fundamental change enabled the Chamber not only to survive the recession but to strengthen itsposition, both financially and in the marketplace. The Chamber has thus confirmed its preeminence asa dynamic international business organization focusing on the English Speaking Business Communityin Italy.The British Chamber of Commerce for Italy was awarded the title of COBCOE British Chamber of theYear in 2010. This award is made yearly by COBCOE, the Council of British Chambers in ContinentalEurope.Mr Law stated: “I am honoured to have been appointed President. I am taking over a well-establishedorganization, an excellent staff and a large group of high quality members. I have taken up thechallenge and I will be leading The British Chamber of Commerce for Italy for the next two years"
