It shouldn’t have been very nice to stop in the dark on the motorway while you were driving your car. Just try to imagine what you would have done: probably you would have started panicking or you would have escaped from you car in order to avoid a crash with another vehicle. We are not describing a thriller or action movie, but the misadventure of two people while they were driving on the motorway Catania-Palermo on a solid Volvo station-wagon . According to the two witnesses, both from Castellana Sicula, the incident occurred ten years ago while they were inside the Tremonzelli tunnel, near the Madonie Mountains, in the province of Palermo. The fact is simple but at the same time worrying. It was a spring morning when the car was entering the tunnel. Suddenly the lights went off. Nothing strange, it happens frequently. But at the same time the car turned off. Fortunately the tunnel was empty. It all lasted a couple of seconds – said S.A., 72 years old, who was driving – but it was a terrifying moment. I still cannot find an explanation for what happened. I have travelled a lot in my life and that was the first time that something like that happened”. The other passenger also remembers that day as if it were yesterday: “I have never spoken about it with anyone – confessed M.R., 60 years old – I panicked, I wanted to leave the car but after a couple of seconds the lights were back on and the car worked again. Moreover that Volvo had a perfect engine”. This strange episode, cannot apparently be explained reasonably, but according to scientists, such phenomenon could have an explanation, even if causes are still unknown. “It could have been electromagnetic radiations – said Professor Maurizio Leone, who teaches physics at the University of Palermo – but we should investigate the fact to make a scientific hypothesis”. According to Leone, there could have been two different phenomena, the blackout and the stopping of the car, with two different causes happening at the same time. “The two events – continued Leone – do not have to be necessarily linked. The only explanation for the turning off of the car, excluding a problem with the engine, could be electromagnetic radiations”. But this story is really strange, and it comes out just after the publication on this newspaper of testimonies concerning mysterious meeting with unidentified shadows in Castellana Sicula or the light balls in Polizzi Generosa. So the Madonie territory seems to be particularly attractive, not only from a naturalistic point of view, but also for strange phenomena. But of one thing we are sure: today, the two people who were in the Tremonzelli tunnel, still have the shivers.
