Everything started with a scoop by Il Giornale. Fini and Bocchino’s wives are in business with Rai. And Italo Bocchino said to Sky TV: “Rai’s first producer is Endemol, owned by the Prime Minister”. The story could become a play, wives are involved and trying to be cunning turns into nonsense.

On the 14th of may, with a sensational operation, Mediaset won the auction for Endemol, opening the doors to Rai. So now Berlusconi, together with another company will control in part Rai programmes, that are mainly produced by Endemol. But what happened really? On the 9th of March 2007 the Spanish group Telefonica auctioned Endemol and on the 30th of March, last day of the auction, international groups such as Time-Warner, Bernard Arnault’s Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, Walt Disney, Rupert Murdoch’s News Corporation, the English broadcaster ITV, the Mexican Televisa and the Italian companies De Agostini and Mediaset also participated. Rai isn’t present. Why? We don’t know. The company would have had a great interest in buying the company since Endemol produces the majority of its programmes. But the political world isn’t concerned.

Endemol with its entertainment programmes can impose its “communication”. If it earns Rai’s money, it improves its presence on the market and can reinvest in projects to eliminate its only competitor, Rai. Endemol has become the core of Rai and the core business of Mediaset. Astonishing.
