Albanian police say they have seized 621 kilograms (1,370 pounds) of cannabis bound for Italy. The drugs were found hidden in a truck that was to board a ferry to Italy.
Police spokeswoman Ornela Cako said the truck was stopped Wednesday in the port of Durres, 33 kilometers (20 miles) east of the capital Tirana, and the driver was arrested.
Albanian police have recently seized about one ton of cannabis and 10 kilograms (22 pounds) of heroin in two other cases at the port.
Albania, a small Balkan country on the Adriatic, is a source of drug trafficking for marijuana and a transit point for heroin from southwest Asia.
