(by Claudio Ernesto Manzati) The narrative of events occurred on Polar Soviet drifting base NP4, object of the fifth article, are like a watershed between the polar missions without Post Office and so with few and rare philographic documents, and then with missions with Post Office so that historical postal’s documentation produced there, it were becoming very rich.

This mainly because, would be gradually increased the participants at the missions as well as because the shifts rotation due at lengthening increase of a mission, in fact from one year duration, the polar missions move to two, three years up the NP22 record, which remained in operation for more than eight years with six shift rotations of the members present at the base.

Mission NP 22 determines a second ideal watershed in the history of missions, because from this mission, it will then be used at the base Post Office, only drawing postmark, which will be different for each new mission, and as showed in the previous article, from NP4 up to NP21 it was used a simple mark type Güller with the same draw and graphic, changing only the mission’s sequence number.

A last wall in the history of Russian arctic polar missions, will be determined by political reasons, mainly due at Soviet Empire dissolution, in fact the base NP31 open on October 22nd , 1988, it was closed for lack of funds on July 25th , 1991 and it were required twelve years before seeing the Arctic research program restarting under the leadership of newly formed Russian Federation. The base NP32 it was opened on April 28th , 2003.

The program further move on and today is active NP37 Polar Base opened the September 7th , 2009, for those are familiar with Internet, connecting with web www.aari.ru, it is possible getting information and images in real time from the base.

Today, fear of the unknown and the dangers that the first polar explorers had to face are almost downsized by technological equipments and tools which are currently available and that allow us to even watch live the base drifting on Arctic Ocean at northern end of our planet.

But let's step back a little bit, the NP5 starts April 21st , 1955 with the aim of replacing the NP3, will have a short life compared to NP4, only 563 days to be completed on 8th October 1956, after a floating of 3629 km.

Were two the shifts rotation of NP5, the first group of 22 members was conducted until 20th April 1956 by N. A. Volkovue, which was replaced by A. L. Sokolov (one of the four Polar Men of first mission NP1) with a group downsized with only 10 members since it was find the risk of rapid melting of ice island, due at a mild spring that year.

The first knew postalmark is of November 5th , 1955 because M. Ljubarez, the radio operator and postmaster bring stamp Güller, at the base with flight of November 4th , 1955.

That of November 5th, 1955 represents the first cancellation of the History of Humanity, carryout at North Pole because as mentioned in the previous article, the first cancellation carryout at NP4 (opened a few days before NP5), it was made only on December 12th, 1955. An important date, to be remembered in the History of Post and Humanity.
