(essea) A letter of intent to extend cooperation between the Tongj University of Shanghai and the Sicilian universities has been signed yesterday. The Sicilian delegation, made up by the assessors Gaetano Armao and Mario Centorrino, the general managers Francesco Attaguile and Gesualdo Campo and president of Science and Technology Park of Sicily Antonino Catara, has met the rectors of Chinese Universities thanks to the cooperation of Paolo Sabbatini, director of the Italian Institute of Culture in Shanghai.

Scientific cooperation will include students and professors academic exchanges  programs. The Chinese University will also contribute to the next meeting on the seismic protection of cultural sites and museum exhibits organized in Palermo by the Regional Department of Cultural Heritage along with the Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles.

The Tongj University in  Shanghai, among the most important in the world, already hosts a few Sicilian students. When the letter of intent will become operative, the universities will be able to develop and strengthen their cooperation and academic exchanges.

The Sicilian delegation has also met representatives of the Technology Park of  Souzu and Zhangjiang to compare mutual experiences and work. The assessors Gaetano Armao and Mario Centorrino have pointed out the fundamental contribution of the Institute for Foreign Trade and Institute of Culture in making the Sicilian stand at the Shanghai Expo such a big success.

Members of the Sicilian delegation (apart from Gaetano Armao who went back to Italy) moved to Bejing last night, where some other meetings are scheduled.
