If President Barack Obama and Russian President Vladimir Putin want some extra quality time together at the Group of 8 meeting, they don’t have to go far.

The U.S. cottage at the Lough Erne resort where the summit is being held is just a few yards from the Russian cottage, the closest U.S. neighbor of all the G-8 delegations.

Upon arrival, Obama stepped out of his limousine and wandered over toward a cottage bearing the Russian flag. The cottages overlook a picturesque lake, and Obama took in the sight, chatted with resort staff then returned to his own cottage.

The proximity is all the more remarkable given the tension over how to deal with Syria between the two leaders, who were meeting on the sidelines of the summit Monday evening. Obama just announced the U.S. will supply military support to Syrian rebels fighting in a civil war. Russia has been supplying arms to the regime of Bashar Assad.

(G.B) After the requests of Dario Cartabellotta, coordinator of the Conference and the authority of the Regione Puglia, Fabrizio Nardoni, the Fisheries Commission has been set up. The Fisheries sector has always been at the heart of the national policy, for this reason the Sicilian authority for Food and Agricultural Resources Cartabellotta has brought in the Conference State-Regions, fisheries related-matters that are problematic for Sicily. Seven points have been identified by the Department of Interventions for Fisheries and specifically, the immediate start of research projects under the three-year national program for fisheries and aquaculture, a better management of the EFF which has led to an unjustified slowness in spending, the demand for increasing the share on the accidental capture of Bluefin tuna.

(Giorgia Bonsignore) In June, the Etna will be proclaimed UNESCO World Heritage Site: it means the fourth Italian World Heritage approved for natural criteria, after the Aeolian Islands, Mount St. George and the Dolomites . The ceremony will take place in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, on the occasion of the thirty-seventh session of the World Heritage Committee. “It ‘a significant milestone for Italy,” the Minister of the Environment Andrea Orlando said. “The UNESCO recognition, as for the Dolomites, is an opportunity for our country to combine environmental protection with the development of the area, by investing in a sustainable development”. The International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) – the agency responsible for examining proposals for the registration in the World Heritage List – recognized the scientific and educational importance of the exceptional volcanic activity and the ultra-millennial notoriety of the volcano, icon of the Mediterranean. The IUCN has evaluated the Etna a significant example of the great eras of the Earth and geological processes history in progress. The World Heritage List includes 936 sites part of the cultural and natural heritage. The World Heritage Commission considers that these sites have a universal value. UNESCO has recognized until now 936 sites (725 cultural, 183 natural and 28 mixed) in 153 countries around the world. Currently Italy is the country that has the largest number of sites, 47, included in the list of UNESCO World.

(Giorgia Bonsignore) The registration of all heterosexual and homosexual couples in Palermo now it’s possible: the decision is also valid for the “Italian and foreign citizens who live together and residents in the town.” The City is trying to avoid the discrimination against Common law couples in the field of “housing, health and social services, policies for the youth, parents and older people, sports and leisure, education, school and educational services, rights and participation, transports” from the enrollment of the children in nursery school. The benefits granted will be valid even after the death of one of the two partners.

The mayor of Palermo Leoluca Orlando said that it was the conclusion of a process began in 2010 with the appeal in support of the bill introduced in the Ars legislature, sponsored by the Committee. The establishment of the register will reduce some of the numerous barriers dividing those married couples from those who are not allowing them to access a range of municipal services until now precluded.
